The town of Danville, CA, is located in the San Ramon Valley of Contra Costa County, in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. Danville sits in a narrow section of the valley, with the Las Trampas Ridge to the west and the Diablo Range to the east.
Initially a farming community, Danville began to develop as a residential suburb shortly after World War II with construction of the first housing tracts. Its population then boomed in the 1970s and 80s. The Iron Horse Regional Trail runs through Danville, originally a railway that was converted into an 80-foot-wide corridor of biking and hiking trails. Incorporated in 1982, Danville today is home to almost 45,000 people across a land area of roughly 18 square miles, including many public parks.
