The suburban city of Dublin, CA, is located roughly 35 miles east of San Francisco and 30 miles north of San Jose, at the intersection of Interstates 580 and 680. Long known as the crossroads of the Bay Area, it’s named for the city in Ireland, recognizing the large number of 19th-century Irish settlers.
The first housing tracts were built in Dublin in 1960, transforming a rural community into a suburb. The area grew steadily from there as both a residential and retail center, finally incorporated as a city in 1982. Today Dublin covers about 15 square miles of land, housing a growing population of more than 60,000 people. In fact, it’s said to be the second fastest-growing city in California. The annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration includes a big parade that has grown more popular every year.
